Patch Notes

Studio Kura, Itoshima, Japan

This installation was made during a two-month residency in Itoshima, shaped by the rhythms of the place and the view from my window. Days were marked by shifts in light and the quiet activity of birds, animals, and wind across the fields. The installation consists of three elements, using materials found locally: gardening poles, clips, astroturf, astroturf nails, and a repurposed advertisement monitor. These everyday objects blend in and shape their surroundings. I became drawn to the sculptural presence of the gardening poles, which subtly structure the landscape. I was also particularly interested in the monitor, typically used to loop product instructions in shops, and how it might speak differently in this new setting. The monitor plays a looping video recorded from the exact spot where the viewer stands—showing the same view, with crows entering and leaving the frame—creating a small disruption in time, or a folding of it.
